Microsoft Releases April Patch Tuesday Updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10

Microsoft has just released the April 2022 Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10. There’s one notable change for notifications in the KB5012592 patch for Windows 11, while the KB5012599 update for Windows 10 brings the new Search Highlights feature to Windows Search.

On Windows 11, this month’s Patch Tuesday update allows the OS to display up to 4 toast notifications simultaneously. That includes three high-priority notifications for apps that send notifications for calls, alarms, and reminders, plus one “normal” priority notification.

In this update, Microsoft has also fixed an issue that caused the OneDrive sync client to lose focus after users renamed a file and pressed the enter key. In some cases, users had to select or tap a file again to use it, but this bug has now been fixed. Microsoft has also updated Windows Search on Windows 11 to return the corresponding page in the Settings app when users search for widgets.

For Windows 10 users, today’s patch KB5012599 introduces the new Search Highlights experience in Windows Search. There’s now a right panel highlighting events like holidays, anniversaries, special days, or trending searches on Bing. For enterprise customers, Search Highlights will be able to surface relevant people, files, and important updates from your organization.

Search Highlights will roll out to all users running Windows 10 versions 21H2, 21H1, and 20H2 over the coming weeks. Microsoft previously said that Search Highlights would also come to Windows 11, though there’s no ETA yet.
